Stress
|
Stress is the feeling we all experience when we put demands on ourselves that overstretch us. Stress is a bi-product of evolution’s answer to protecting us from danger. When threatened, the human body releases chemicals into its bloodstream to provide it with additional strength and energy to either flee or confront the threat. This is a human response that was designed to protect us from dangers millions of years ago. In the modern world, more often than not, we find that whatever the danger is it rarely requires us to run away or hit it with a club, but as a result we are left with lots of pent up energy with nowhere to disperse it to. Because of this, some people find that they have an over-sensitive threat response and in others it misfires creating the “fight or flight” reaction for no apparent reason. Stress can be quite debilitating in its extreme form, but everyone suffers from a mild form of it from time to time - it’s just the way we deal with what life throws at us.
