Spirituality
|
Spirituality is more than simply a person’s religious beliefs. It is everything that influences their interaction with their belief system, whether it be an organised religion or simply a life of being good to others and the world around them. There are many organised religions in the world today and for each religion there are numerous interpretations of how you should best serve your faith. It is the choices that you make about how best to translate your religious beliefs into humane actions that determine your spirituality, as opposed to the simple adherence to tradition. You may believe in the power of crystals, of meditation or of a force bigger than all of us that guides our destinies. It is the act of dedicating time and effort to understanding something that you believe to be far greater than yourself and which can make all of our lives better. It is, though, a very personal thing whether you consider it to be an example of interest or spirituality. Being good to one another could be considered simply to be a way of life or a sign of the spirituality of a person. Many people give of their time and money to help others, whilst some dedicate their whole lives to a cause. Whether this means caring for an elderly relative or teaching children in an impoverished country, giving a homeless person enough for a warm meal, or helping to collect money for the victims of a natural disaster, we all contribute in different ways. Spirituality is both how we see our contribution to the human race and how others see it. It is in the values we live by and the beliefs we follow, in the goodness we show others and the humility we exude when others praise our actions. Spirituality is no one thing; it is many things to many people.
