We all worry. Many of us check on our actions when we forget whether we have locked the front door, washed our hands or closed the car windows. That does not mean that we all have OCD. A perfectly natural forgetfulness or need to have everything “just so” only becomes classifiable as a mental health issue when it becomes excessive, causes distress or starts to restrict your everyday life. The main symptom of OCD is the compulsion to repeat tasks over and over again, though sufferers often also exhibit signs of other mental health problems such as depression or anxiety. OCD can develop at any time in a person’s life, but because of the stigma attached to mental health issues some people find it difficult to admit to having the problem. The best way of finding an effective way of managing your condition is to ask for help.
