What Is An Eating Disorder?

An eating disorder is more than just binge eating after a painful break-up or staving oneself to fit into your favourite pair of jeans. It is a serious psychological disorder which warps your view of your weight, diet and body image and could become very dangerous to your health.

This negative self image can fuel a poor dietary habit into a genuine eating disorder. Overeating is often used by people to counter feelings of loneliness and sadness, whilst starving oneself or purging your system is used to combat self-loathing and feelings of low-self worth.

Food obsessions are never far from the headlines, as waif-like models and Hollywood stars are accused of setting poor or impossible standards for others to follow. Eating disorders can hit anyone at any time in their lives, and it is when your food and body image obsessions dominate your every move that you need to stop and consider whether you too might have an eating disorder.
