Possible Causes Of Eating Disorder
|
Peer pressure, social pressures and career pressures can all push us to feeling insecure about the way we look. It is when we take drastic action to change our body shape for larger or smaller that the three most common eating disorders of Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating may come into play. Anorexia Fuelled by an extreme fear of either becoming or being overweight, anorexics starve themselves, over exercise and diet to the point of harming their health. An anorexic will not notice when they have become slim, or even emaciated. Their self-image is always one of being on the brink of, or being, fat. Without the right vitamins and calories in their diets, anorexics can be seriously damaging their bodies and increasing their susceptibility to illness. Bulimia This is a destructive binge/purge cycle that can result in irreparable damage to your body. Bulimics will go to extreme lengths to purge their bodies when the guilt sets in that they may have over eaten. Self-induced vomiting, laxatives and diet pills are all used. Bulimics have a similar warped self-image problem to anorexics, but the food rollercoaster they put themselves through can be even more harmful. Binge Eating A compulsion to rapidly consume thousands of calories in a single sitting and an inability to stop eating when their body is telling them that they are full. Binge eaters may feel guilt or shame, and may even want to stop eating, but will find that they simply cannot control their obsession.
