What is Confidence & Self Esteem?

Your self-esteem is the way you see yourself or the way you believe others see you. Are you a ‘glass is half full’ or ‘half empty’ person? Do you look for the positive in everyone or suspect that they will eventually let you down?

Most people’s self-esteem is at the positive end of the scale and when bad things happen they generally bounce back. Unfortunately, there are some who gravitate to a lower self-esteem equilibrium which can become a problem, as life’s knocks force them lower and lower until they find it difficult to cope with life.

How we bounce back from the trials life throws at us may also be affected by how persistent the tribulations are. If you lose a family pet to old age you may feel the loss, but recover quickly. However, if in quick succession you also find out that your partner is leaving you and that you did not get the promotion at work you’ve been waiting for all year, it may take longer to recover.
