Possible Causes of Anger
|
Anger can be caused by anything from long term psychological issues to short term stresses and other external stimuli. Here are a few examples of situations where anger can manifest itself: Unresolved issues Anger can be caused by the build-up of emotions over a period of time. Sometimes the source of the anger is obvious and therefore it is important to recognise the historical issue and resolve it before your anger gets out of control. In other people, anger can be caused by the cumulative effect of numerous innocuous events, therefore making a cure more difficult to find. A threat The "fight or flight" mechanism that has been engrained in all of us through millions of years of evolution serves to protect us and those we care about. When we believe we are being threatened, the adrenalin pumping through our veins can result in the "fight" option being taken, as anger is one of the weapons in our arsenal that can be used against those who would do us harm. Learned behaviour Children consciously and subconsciously soak up everything they witness as part of their learning experience when growing up. A child in a household without guidance and boundaries may grow up into someone who expresses anger in a socially unacceptable way. A child who has been taught to express their anger through violence as a result of abuse, or parents who were verbally or physically violent to one another, may follow in their footsteps.
