Addiction

Addiction, dependence and dependency are terms that can be used interchangeably to mean the uncontrollable craving for something (e.g. drugs, alcohol, gambling, tobacco, sex or work) and the withdrawal symptoms that ensue if denied it. Addiction has nothing to do with a lack of willpower or intelligence and can affect anyone. If left unchecked this loss of control can be life altering, destructive and, in some cases, fatal as an addict’s cravings require them to take greater and greater chances with their health. For those lucky enough to recognise that they have a problem before it is too late, the realisation can often take quite some time. However, for those who seek it, there are people out there who can help you quit.
