Available Resources and Useful Links for Addiction

There are charities and professional organisations that you may find useful. We have compiled a list of a few of them and hope they can be of some help to you:

 

Release  Organisation providing advice to drug users, their families, friends and professionals.

Drug misuse: statistics on use of illicit drugs, crime, and drug-related hospital treatment  An annual drugs bulletin providing a range of statistics drawn together from a variety of sources including information on: drug misuse among adults; drug misuse among children, including data on those offered drugs; drugs and crime; drug-related hospital admissions, drug treatment and mortality; European comparison of drug misuse.

Drug Misusers: statistics on clients in contact with drug treatment services  Information on the number of clients in contact with drug treatment services, the proportion of clients retained in treatment for 12 weeks or more, and the number of new presentations and discharges.

Drugs: Data on usage in young people  This statistical bulletin, which focuses on young people, presents a range of data on drug misuse

Youth 2 Youth  Internet charity offering practical and emotional support to young people.

Depression Alliance  Charity for sufferers of depression. With information and a network of self-help groups.  

Alcohol Concern  Helping anyone who may drink too much or is concerned about another’s drinking.

Young Minds  Information on child and adolescent mental health plus mental health services for young people.

Mind Body Soul  Information on health issues such as drugs, exercise and mental health for young people aged 14-16.

Al-Anon Family Groups  Help and advice for anyone affected by someone else's drinking.

Families Anonymous  Group helping family and friends of people with a current, suspected or former drug problem.

Kikass  Charity bringing young people aged 16 to 26 together in-group activities.

The Calmzone  The Campaign Against Living Miserably is targeted at young men aged between 15-35.

Life Works  Offers treatment for addictions, compulsive behaviours and related mental health conditions.

Cocaine Anonymous UK  Help and support for people with a cocaine addiction.  Contains personal stories.

Narcotics Anonymous  Voluntary organisation offering help and support for individuals with a drug addiction. 

Drugsline  Charity providing information for people with drug and alcohol related issues.

Care for the Family's "Drug Proof Your Kids" Programme  Helps parents develop the skills to help their children make informed choices about drug use  

PADA  National organisation offering help and support to families of substance abusers. 

Marijuana Anonymous  Information for people who are addicted to marijuana, offering help and support.

Recover  Provides free, confidential and independent advice on private alcohol and drug rehabilitation centres.

Action on Addiction  Charity seeking new ways to prevent and treat nicotine, alcohol and drug abuse.

Drinkaware Trust  Information about  alcohol and drinking, provides facts and practical tips.

There4Me  Help with issues including abuse, bullying, exams, drugs and self harm for 12 to 16-year-olds.

Addaction  Provides information to help individuals manage the effects of drug and alcohol misuse.

Adfam – families, drugs and alcohol  Provides support to families affected by addiction. Includes publications and training.

Turning Point  Social care organisation providing services for people affected by drug and alcohol misuse

The Mayo Clinic - Diseases & Conditions  A not-for-profit US-based medical practice that specialises in diagnosis and treatment.

National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse  Aims to improve the availability and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse in England.

Pycom.net  Information on depressive disorders and the treatments available.

Alcohol, Drugs and Family  Programme for families who are concerned about a relative’s alcohol or drug misuse.
