Symptoms of Abuse

Symptoms of an abusive relationship

Although there are numerous indications that you or someone you know may be in an abusive or violent relationship, the most significant is fear. Fear for your or their safety and that of others that you know.

Other things to watch out for are:

  • A violent or sudden temper in your partner
  • Threats to harm you or themselves
  • Humiliating or belittling you
  • Nervous of them, whether they are shouting or not.
  • Excessive jealousy or possessiveness
  • Forced sexual abuse
  • Friends who exhibit frequent injuries explained away as “accidents”
  • Depression, anxiety, tearfulness
